Evolution is the fourth studio album by British boy band JLS. The album was released on 5 November 2012 through RCA Records. The album marks a new change in direction for the band, described as a throwback to the '90s new jack swingR&B-influenced music. The album was preceded by the single Hottest Girl in the World, released on 21 October 2012. 'It's A Shame': What a cut- amongst the classic ambient silver drums of Evo/Galaxy/Static, and often overlooked, It's A Shame carves a path akin to the sounds of the time from Derrick May & Kevin Saunderson, making for another true D.T anthem. Indispensable.

Anyone know who did the artwork on these? The early fragile, transmat and masahiro etc labels always made me wonder if it was the same person? dope style anyway, always liked them.

I really don't think the artwork was done by Alan Oldham on the Fragile records releases; his artwork was very different and in a completely different style to the ones that appear on the 1990 Fragile and Transmat ones. But he certainly did the artwork on some of the earlier '86, '87, '88 and '89 Transmat releases.

Hi. On the Psyche 'Crackdown' release on Fragile, and Model 500 'Ocean to Ocean' on Transmat, there's an artwork credit by The TRI. Could be the same person that did some of the others.

What came first, the drum loop on "Galaxy" or the drum loop on Shut Up and Dance's "Derek went mad"? Both released in 1990. One would presumer SUAD sampled Carl Craig but Carl is very sample-happy himself. Who knows???

The database does indeed catalogue the full release date of 'Derek Went Mad supposed Remix as 1991. The promo was being played way before 1991 at most of the underground venues and pirate radio stations. Have a couple of pirate recordings from 1990 and happened to pick up a promo copy during the autumn of 1990. The original mix which appeared on SUAD's debut LP earlier that in 1990 also samples the same break, albeit in slightly different places within the track.However, there isn't much doubt that SUAD sampled the drum track from BFC. I suspect Carl Craig also sampled those beats from elsewhere, although the latter is just speculation from my part. BFC "Galaxy" was circulating for quite a while before 'Derek Went Mad' surfaced anyway.

Galaxy first without a doubt. SUAD lifted from old breaks and early house. DJ Hype use to drop this on Fantasy FM in early 90, he was in Heatwave Crew with Smiley and P.J. before that ;)

According to the database 'Derek Went Mad' came out in 1991. That fits with my memory - certainly I remember buying this EP quite a few months before first hearing 'Derek Went Mad' on Kiss.This is one of THE all-time classic Detroit techno releases, an absolute masterpiece that sounded like it had been beamed in from some distant dystopian future. The title track still sounds like nothing else.

For this album Carl got his inspiration from the group Liaisons Dangereuses with the self named album Liaisons Dangereuses. Mister Craig single handedly made here the blue print for the Birmingham sound which now dj's like Surgeon, Regis, James Ruskin & max duley are most famous of. A stunning ground breaking album with the darker side of Carl Craig. Is there anything Carl Craig can't do?

This is a fantastic record; I can’t believe I didn’t pick up on it earlier. Evolution is a timeless classic, still sounds fresh 15 years later. Its chilled tone and addictive snare pattern, enables you to sneak it into a variety of sets & styles.

I find this record (specifically "Galaxy") such a timelessly great example of Detroit Techno. With it's haunting pads and laid back percussion loops it should be studied and taken on board by all people wishing to produce music and label it techno. Considering the year of release, you have to take your hat off (once again) to Carl Craig for such forward thinking.

Well, it seems that this release had been repressed these past 5 years, so happily, there must be more people who knows it now :-) . "Static friendly" is a terrific crunchy breakbeat track, weirdly groovy as good Detroit sound can be, ultra minimalistic: a major dj tool.
