Don Patterson often gets compared to Jimmy Smith, probably because they are arguably the two best-known jazz electric organists. But the fact is, this comparison is hardly fair, as their styles are drastically different. Jimmy Smith plays soulful bluesy grooves, while Mr. Patterson opts for straight-up bebop. The addition of a trumpet to Patterson's group on this album is enjoyable, although it takes some of the focus away from Patterson's masterful organ work. Overall, this album shines all the way through, and is a relatively unknown that deserves more recognition
