5 CDs packaged in individual cardboard slipcases (each with tracklistings, credits, recording information), all inside a hinged carboard box; includes a 26 page booklet, notes in English, German, and French.

Note -- Disc 5 features performances by the Berliner Philharmoniker (Symphonies 88 and 98) and Symphonie-Orchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks (Symphony 91), and though attributed properly on back sleeve of disc 5 slipcase, back sleeve of box, and in Booklet tracklist, p. 6, these orchestras are not printed on front box sleeve, box spine, or front sleeve of disc 5 slipcase, but rather only London Philharmonic Orchestra is indicated.

Note -- Error. On page 6 of Booklet and on back sleeve of CD slipcase 5, the track listing of Symphony No. 91 is wrongly printed as Tracks 9 through 12; in actuality they are Tracks 5 through 8. (Tracks 9 through 12 pertain to the correctly attributed Symphony No. 98 on Disc 5.)

I, No. Allegro Moderato. 95: II. Haydn's London Symphonies are among the treasures of western civilization, and it is incredible how his work seems to always stand in the shadow of Beethoven and Mozart, who both knew exactly the extent of Haydn's genius. That said, these recordings stand as the perfect introduction to the man who essentially invented the classical symphonic form as we know it as well as the string quartet, but that's another matter altogether. I first purchased the Jochum performances piecemeal on LP in the late 70's to satisfy my desire for all twelve London symphonies, having been spoiled by Szell's legendary readings of Nos. 93-98 from the 60's. Every London Symphony, apart from No. 95, has a slow introduction to the first movement
