Album

Clouds is the second studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, released on May 1, 1969, by Reprise Records. After releasing her debut album to considerable exposure, Mitchell recorded the album at A&M Studios in Hollywood. She produced most of the album and painted a self-portrait for its cover artwork. The red flower is a prairie lilly, the provincial flower of Saskatchewan. Clouds has subtle, unconventional harmonies and songs about lovers, among other themes. Clouds - Joni Mitchell. Today we look at Joni's sophomore album Clouds from 1969. Favorite Tracks: Both Sides free to Joni Mitchell Clouds Tin Angel, Chelsea Morning and more. 10 tracks 36:42. Clouds is a stark stunner, a great leap forward for Joni Mitchell. Vocals here are more forthright and assured than on her debut and exhibit a remarkable level of subtle expressiveness. Guitar alone is used in accompaniment, and the variety of playing approaches and sounds gotten here is most impressive. The Fiddle and the Drum, a protest song that imaginatively compares the Vietnam-era warmongering U. government to a bitter friend, dispenses with instrumental accompaniment altogether. Joni Mitchell. Joni Mitchell Album Guide. Ranking the genius singer-songwriters albums, from wistful acoustic folk to complex jazz pop and beyond. Further Listening: Clouds 1969. This is where Mitchell came into full focus as artist, arranger, producer and songwriter. Chelsea Morning and I Dont Know Where I Stand had already been covered by Fairport Convention, and Judy Collins hit the Top 10 with Both Sides Now, but Mitchell took ownership here. Songs to Aging Children Come anticipated Kate Bushs dizzying harmonies. Another transitional record - this is Mitchell broadening her palette. Album 1969 10 Songs.
