Tracks: The Lights 0:00 - 4. 46: 'Em All is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica, released on July 25, 1983 by the independent record label Megaforce Records. Kill 'Em All is regarded as a groundbreaking album for thrash metal because of its precise musicianship, which fuses new wave of British heavy metal riffs with hardcore punk tempos. The album's musical approach and lyrics were markedly different from rock's mainstream of the early 1980s and inspired a number of bands who followed in similar manner. Kill 'Em All is Metallica's debut album, released on July 25, 1983 on Megaforce Records. Metallica's original line-up featured James Hetfield vocalsrhythm guitar, Dave Mustaine lead guitar, Ron McGovney bass, and Lars Ulrich drums. Because of tensions with Mustaine, McGovney left the band. Castro Valley-born bassist Cliff Burton was recruited as his replacement. Mustaine was fired in April 1983 for his drug and alcohol problems, overly aggressive behavior, and clashes with bandmates. Before Kill Em All was their 1982 demo No Life Til Leather. Recorded at Chateau East Studio in Tuscin, California, the lineup for the 7 track demo was James Hetfield vocals, guitar, Dave Mustaine guitar, Ron McGovney bass and Lars Ulrich drums. All the songs from the demo would appear on Kill Em All, with The Mechanix being reworked into The Four Horsemen. Not finding any labels that would sign Metallica, the Zazulas started their own label, Megaforce Records. Kill Em All was recorded at Music America Studios in Rochester, N. by producer Paul Curcio. On Kill 'Em All, Metallica fuses the intricate riffing of New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Diamond Head with the velocity of Motörhead and hardcore punk. James Hetfield's highly technical rhythm guitar style drives most of the album, setting new standards of power, precision, and stamina.
